BMW’s Vision EfficientDynamics may be given the i8 name

A report from BMW Blog said that the carmaker may use the i8 name for the Vision EfficientDynamics, which will go into model production in 2013. The hybrid supercar will debut in 2013 as a 2014 model. Recently, BMW has trademarked different "i" names and logos related to its plan to come up with a sub-brand from its "Project i" lineup of vehicles.
There had been speculation that the Vision EfficientDynamics name would be used as the i1 or i100. But as the model’s launch is far off, it’s more likely that BMW may be using the i8 name among a group of others. To complete the naming process, market research is expected to be lengthy and rigorous so it’s improbable that BMW has accomplished this. Nevertheless, using the number 8 makes sense in positioning the large supercar above the 6-Series and 7-Series as what was done with the M8, which has yet to be revealed.
